The Centre for the Promotion of Global Health
The Centre for the Promotion of Global Health was founded by Richard Sheiner MD, F.R.C.P.(C.), D.A.B.P.N., a Canadian child and adult psychiatrist with a vision of improving the conditions affecting the health of children and families on a global scale.
The Centre for the Promotion of Global Health is Constantly expanding our network, forming alliances with other passionate people and organizations committed to climate action. CPGH is a member of 350.org, Parents for Future Global, the Earth Day Network and People’s Climate Movement. The center is also a member of the movement for global mental health.
Sustainable Youth Canada Montreal branch has also collaborated in the development of this project. We have also had input from selected colleagues at McGill University in Montreal Canada, as well as Harvard University in Boston.
Dr. Sheiner is the Director for the Centre for the Promotion of Global Health and provides oversight for all centre activities. He is a board certified psychiatrist, who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults. He has worked in children's hospitals both in the United States and Canada, and more recently in private practice in Montreal, Quebec.
Dr. Sheiner is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Canada) as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the International Association for Youth Mental Health, the Canadian Psychiatric Association, the American Academy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Sheiner is a graduate of McMaster University medical school. He did his psychiatry and child psychiatry residency training at McGill University in Montreal. In the past, Dr. Sheiner has worked as a member of the AACAP committee dealing with childhood trauma. Through his work, he developed a special interest in the effects of trauma, conflict an war on the mental health of children. This interest fueled his past advocacy work on behalf of children in the Middle East as well as Asia, and persists today as a major motivation behind the Centre for the Promotion of Global Health. Over the past 2 years Dr. Sheiner has focused on the issues of climate change. He has received specialized training internationally in climate change science and solutions.
Over the past 15 years Dr. Sheiner has worked in Montreal, Canada with adolescents and adults. His expertise includes psychiatric evaluations and psychopharmacology interventions as well as psychotherapy with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Positive Psychology strategies.
Dr. Sheiner is President and founder of the Mindstrength Institute. The institute focuses on the delivery of resilience training for stress management and is offered to both individuals and groups (ages 16+).
Dr. Sheiner received extensive training in Family Therapy during his residency at McGill University in Montreal. He has a special interest in applying Family Dynamics and Psychological Theory to solve international problems.
